The Program

Vocational Training School (VTS)

Life at Welcome Home is balanced between personal development and career preparation. Vocational training, combined with classroom teaching are important parts of the Program. They are powerful tools of recovery and are needed for students to prepare for independent living. From experience with, and feedback from Welcome Home students, vocational training is one of the most recognized and appreciated advantages of the Welcome Home Program.

Vocational Training has two specific objectives

Career Training

Students learn all aspects of
the competitive work world and develop exceptional work ethics. This enables them to obtain a job, to keep a job, and to excel in whatever career they choose.

Personal Development:

Through productive activities students build self-esteem, pride and a sense of achievement. These activities also help defray some of the cost of maintaining the Welcome Home Program.

The vocational training is conducted in real business and job settings. While students are exposed to the challenges of the business world, they take pride in being productive and learn work ethics to compete successfully in today’s job market. Moreover, students keep their minds and bodies occupied productively while they have the opportunity to develop their talents into marketable job skills. They develop interpersonal, management, and leadership skills, humility and better self-control. They learn to be “givers” instead of “takers” and become valuable employees or successful entrepreneurs. They learn to “stick to it”, follow directions, cooperate with others, deal with the public, go the extra mile, be punctual, polite, productive and disciplined, responsible, and accountable. In short, vocational training is therapeutic, practical and vital in preparing students to handle future career challenges successfully.
