Career Preparation

Addiction Recovery
is Just the Start

“The Welcome Home Program goes far beyond addiction recovery. It is all about becoming the best person that one can be.” – John Volken, Founder

The Welcome Home addiction treatment program addresses more than just addiction recovery. Personal development and career preparation are also integral parts of the program. They are powerful tools in the recovery process and important for lasting sobriety.

Continued sobriety requires continued employment. Therefore, it is extremely important that Welcome Home students become valuable employees.

While in the Program, each student receives constant and thorough vocational training. The training is conducted in real business and job settings. Students become familiar with the competitive work world and develop appropriate work ethics. This enables them to obtain a job, keep a job, and excel in whatever career they choose. They learn to be self-sufficient, to support a family, to be a model friend, neighbour, and citizen, to enjoy self-worth and self-respect, and to have pride in their career and advancements. Students keep their minds and bodies occupied productively while they have the opportunity to develop their talents into marketable job skills.

Vocational training in the Welcome Home addiction treatment program helps students to develop interpersonal, management, and leadership skills, as well as humility and self-control. Addicts learn to be “givers” instead of “takers” and to become valuable employees or successful entrepreneurs. They learn to problem-solve, “stick to it”, follow directions, cooperate with others, deal with the public, go the extra mile, and be punctual, polite, productive, disciplined, responsible, and accountable.

Vocational training is therapeutic, practical and vital in preparing students to successfully handle future career challenges and maintain productive lives free from addiction.
