Life-long freedom from addiction
“Getting people to give up drugs will only work if they learn how to live successfully without drugs.”
At Welcome Home, we not only help our Program participants (referred to as “students”) overcome their addiction but, more importantly, we help them adopt a completely new lifestyle.
Progressive Levels of Addiction Recovery
Welcome Home students advance through six progressive levels — from Inductee to Senior. The first period is referred to as the “blackout” period and lasts for at least two months. During this time students are isolated from all that is not part of Welcome Home. The primary objective of this entry level is to assimilate students into the Welcome Home community so that they focus solely on their recovery without interference.
After students meet the requirements of the first level, they advance through the remaining levels towards “graduation.” Progression depends on each student’s ability and readiness. Students are carefully monitored and regularly evaluated, including peer and self-evaluation. With progress comes more challenges and responsibilities, as well as more privileges.
Education and Personal Development
Students are introduced to, educated about, and trained on a multitude of behavioural and substantive subject matters. Once students have mastered the basics, and depending on their needs, talents or interests, they are encouraged to advance in those areas.
Some specific areas of education and training are:
- Accounting
- Wood working
- Computer technology
- Warehousing
- Sales
- Leadership
- Money-management
- Culinary arts
- Service
- Work ethics
- Accountability
- Dealing with stress
- Personal responsibility
- Self-confidence
- Legal compliance
- Hygiene
- Public speaking
- Etiquette
- Self-worth
- Introspection
Re-entry Levels
The final two levels of the Program (a minimum of 6 months) are the “re-entry levels”. This is the time for students to prepare for independent living. They enjoy greater privileges, including leaves of absence ranging from 3 to 14 hours. They are more involved in decision-making and teaching. They are required to complete their GED (if needed), obtain their driver’s license (when possible), secure a job, and have the ability to handle financial matters. Where necessary, our legal department will help to address and satisfy any legal obligations.
You Are Now Ready For Independent Living!
After you have completed the Program, you will have the ability to retain a job, nurture a family, manage your finances, and deal with life’s everyday challenges. In short, you will have the solid foundation and determination to successfully live your life without drugs and alcohol.
An Open Door
Afterwards, graduates are encouraged to maintain an association with Welcome Home so that they have a source to renew and strengthen their commitment to sobriety and, as they are a source of inspiration, to motivate the students.
