Drugs and Alcohol Are Mind Altering

• An addict’s decision making is impaired. He is more emotional, unreasonable.

• Addicts experience more ‘lows’, get easily depressed, experience feelings of shame,
   worthlessness, loss of self-confidence.

• Addicts are more impulsive and “fly off the handle” much more easily.

• Addicts have more difficulty feeling happy.

For the mind to heal and say “No!” to drugs takes time. In fact, the amount of time is
critical. To expect a person with a long history of substance abuse to turn around in just
a few months is simply unrealistic. Research has repeatedly confirmed that there is a
direct relationship between the length of stay in treatment and the ability to stay off drugs.
That is why remaining in treatment for an adequate period of time is crucial; and that is
also why the minimum length of time in the Welcome Home Program is two years. Any
shorter period of time will almost certainly result in relapse.

At Welcome Home we don’t believe in short-cuts, quick-fixes, or “band-aid solutions”. Students stay in the Program until their lives have been rebuilt - however long that may take.

We settle for nothing less than Life-Long Sobriety.
